Chicagoland Disabled People of Color Coalition, UIC Disability Cultural Center, and the Institute on Disability and Human Development will host their fourth annual Accessible Juneteenth celebration on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, from 4pm to 7:30pm. The event would not be possible without support from Cook It Mama, Raising Cane’s, IPlayGames, and more sponsors to be announced.

Since 2021, Chicagoland DPOCC has hosted Accessible Juneteenth to celebrate Juneteenth and commemorate Black people with disabilities who have helped create a freer world for Black communities worldwide. The theme for the 4th Annual Accessible Juneteenth celebration is Black National Anthems. We will kick the evening of performances off with Domo Moon’s rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

This year, DJ Matt will bless us with music fit for our Accessible Juneteenth celebration. Festivities include an open mic to celebrate the abundance of local talent! Don’t miss feature performances from RISE, Victoria Boateng, Cherlnell Lane, Complex Theory and MORE Special Guests.

Food, giveaways, and resources will be given out by vendors, including those from Black-owned and disability-owned/friendly organizations and businesses. We’ll also have an indoor photo booth, games, and art to create. Please note masks are required when sharing indoor space at this event.

Sign up at go.uic.edu/OpenMicJuneteenth or in person. But hurry, because spots are limited!

Watch the live stream on Chicagoland DPOCC’s Facebook page on June 18.

ASL and captioning will be provided for the open mic and showcase portion. In caring for immunocompromised people in our community, we ask that masking be required for our indoor spaces. We’ll have extras on hand!

Attached is a flier that has the location and general information about 2024 Accessible Juneteenth; share this fun event with media outlets, all your friends, family, self-advocates, and networks! We look forward to seeing you at the Accessible Juneteenth celebration in June. Learn more about the event at go.uic.edu/AccessibleJuneteenth.
