AHS Summer S.P.A.R.K. Scholars Started Classes!
The AHS Summer S.P.A.R.K. (Scholars Preparing for Achievement, Resourcefulness, and Knowledge) program started this summer. The AHS Undeclared major advising team received a grant for a project to support new incoming AHS undeclared students in easing their transition to UIC by equipping them with essential academic and life skills.
Throughout six workshops, AHS Scholars engaged in various preparatory activities, including study skills, time management, campus exploration, major exploration as they built connections with peers, faculty, and staff. The curriculum aimed to build confidence in campus resources, connection, and belonging. This structured environment allowed students to familiarize themselves with college-level expectations and resources and enhance their readiness for the coming semester.
By the end of the programming, students received laptops to help them prepare for their classes. Students were excited to test software and access Blackboard and other programs to help them with classes.
Programming will continue with a reunion in the Fall and Spring.
This programming would not have happened without the dedicated advisors, staff, and faculty who work directly with students or help with resources. A special thank you goes to the entire AHS community that participated in welcoming our AHS students!
