UIC flu vaccine program

Dear AHS faculty and staff,

As the October to March flu season approaches, we are strongly encouraging every member of our UIC community – whether on campus or off – to get vaccinated for the flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that getting a flu shot is more important than ever during the current COVID-19 pandemic, as being vaccinated will not only protect you, your family and our campus from seasonal flu, but will also help reduce the burden on healthcare systems which are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and preserve medical resources needed for the care of COVID-19 patients.

Faculty and staff who are working on campus are required to get vaccinated for the flu unless otherwise directed by their physician.

If you are on campus, you will be able to receive the flu vaccine from October 5 to October 30. Flu shots will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Student Center West, Centennial Room (first floor)
  • Dorin Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Room (ends 10/9)
  • Student Center East, Room 302 (begins 10/12)

To comply with the university’s COVID-19 guidelines, appointments must be scheduled to receive the flu vaccine. Visit the UIC Flu Vaccine website for complete instructions for employees and students.

If you are taking classes online or working from home, you can get your flu shot from your personal healthcare provider, local pharmacy or a city or county health department clinic.

Along with continuing to wear face coverings, frequently washing our hands, and maintaining social distance, getting a flu shot is one of the most important things we each can do to ensure our campus remains safe and healthy during the fall and winter flu season.

I hope we can count on your support of this important health initiative.

Sincerely,
Bo Fernhall
Dean and Professor
